St. Louis begins defense of its championship in highlight fashion as Kurt Warner throws for 441 yards and 3 TDs. However, Warner suffers 3 INTs, the last being returned 32 yards by Terrell Buckley for a TD and 36-35 Denver lead with 6:35 left.

The Rams respond in lightning fashion, before regaining the lead on Robert Holcombe's 1-yard TD run. After coming up big for most of the night, Brian Griese falters on the final possession. Griese finishes with 307 yards and 2 TD passes. Marshall Faulk balances St. Louis' attack with 78 yards and 1 TD on the ground, and 100 yards and 1 TD on 4 catches.
