Mika Salo makes a fast start to move into 2nd place, and Irvine later takes the lead as Mika Hakkinen loses time in the pits and later goes out with a blown tire. Irvine then goes onto lead the 1-2 finish for Ferrari with Salo taking 2nd. Jordan's Heinz-Harald Frentzen takes 3rd place.
