Mclaren's David Coulthard is hit with a costly penalty when mechanics are too late in stopping work on the car before the parade lap, sending Coulthard to the back, leaving Schumacher's Ferrari to dominate. After losing his 2nd spot on the opening grid, Coulthard never challenges, while Schumacher's teammate Rubens Barrichello takes 2nd place and Benetton's Giancarlo Fisichella finishes 3rd.
