Ralf Schumacher is the victorious brother as attrition claims his older brother, Michael, and Mika Hakkinen.

After a blown engine in Michael Schumacher's Ferrari causes a crash and re-start, Schumacher sees his chance to move closer to a title disappear with engine failure. Hakkinen's Mclaren had already failed.

So Ralf steps forward to deliver Williams the victory, while Rubens Barrichello claims 2nd for Ferrari, with BAR's Jacques Villeneuve winning the battle for 3rd.
