Takumo Sato wins the sprint for the finish to capture his 1st at the Brickyards.

Sato fends off 3-time winner Helio Castroneves in the final laps after Castroneves leap-frogged Sato to overtake Max Chilton for the lead, but Sato is able to make the pass on Castroneves with 5 laps to go and then holds off Castroneves. Rookie Ed Jones finishes 3rd, with Chilton 4th.

Two-time Formula1 champion Fernando Alonso leads 3 times, and runs with the leaders throughout until his Honda engine blows up with 21 laps to go, just as his Andretti Autosports teammate and threat to win, Ryan Hunter-Reay was taken out on lap 137. Three leaders were eliminated by Honda engine failures in the late stages but Sato's Honda engine holds on to the finish.
