Gordon passes teammate Jimmie Johnson on the final lap after being his drafting partner and Johnson creates a line on the bottom of the track after the field runs high all day long. Johnson and Gordon are able to overtake the Penske tandem of Ryan Newman and Kurt Busch.

Gordon claims the 1st Car of Tomorrow race after starting back in the pack, when he pulls out from behind Johnson and gets a push to the lead by Tony Stewart.
