Game Notes

#1 Hurricanes erupt in the rain to crush the Mountaineers 45-3.

Miami breaks out a slow start and 3-3 tie with a pair of West Virginia turnovers. The first sets up Ken Dorsey's 6-yard TD pass to Jeremy Shockey, and then shortly after James Lewis returns an INT 75 yards for a score and 17-3 lead in the 2nd quarter.

The 2nd half is all Miami, with Dorsey tossing a 2nd TD pass, to match school-record for career TD passes with 48. Andre Johnson catches 6 passes for 92 yards and 1 TD, while Clinton Portis offers balance with 76 yards and 1 TD on the ground. True freshman Frank Gore provides the flash, rushing for 124 yards and 2 TDs on just 6 carries, scoring on runs of 45 and 49 yards.
