Game Notes

And now there is a Wide Left.

The #1 Hurricanes survive with a 28-27 win over the #12 Seminoles as Xavier Beitia hooks a decisive FG left on the final play, adding a chapter to the series that includes 3 Wide Rights.

It provides a fitting finish in the rivalry, but only set up when Miami rallies from down 27-14 in the 4th quarter to keep the Canes' 28-game winning streak alive. Ken Dorsey hits Kevin Beard with a 2-yard TD pass to cut the deficit to 27-21. Then Jason Geathers scores on a 11-yard draw, one play after Dorsey and Willis McGahee hook up on a 68-yard screen pass.

However, Miami plays a role in giving Florida State its late chance, with a 3-yard punt and a 15-yard personal foul penalty setting the stage for the final kick. The Hurricanes mistakes are common on a day when they commit 14 penalties and suffer 3 turnovers.

The Miami mistakes help the Seminoles overcome an early 7-0 Canes lead, and go-ahead 17-7 late in the 1st half when Chris Rix hits Talman Gardner on a 10-yard TD pass. However, the Hurricanes answer with a long drive capped by Dorsey's 5-yard TD pass to Kellen Winslow Jr. in the final minute of the 1st half.

Florida State recovers in the 2nd half and extends its lead to 27-14 on Greg Jones' 11-yard TD run in the 4th quarter. Jones rushes for 189 yards.

Dorsey throws for 362 yards and 2 TDs while McGahee rushes for 95 yards and 1 TD, and catches 3 passes for 78 yards.
