Dan Hutchins' 33-yard FG w/ :52 left lifts Pitt to its 1st 10-win season since 1981. It was Hutchins' 4th FG of the game to go along with Dion Lewis' 11-yard TD run in the 2nd quarter. Lewis rushes for 159 yards, finishing with 1,799 yards for the season, surpassed only by Tony Dorsett among freshmen at Pitt.

Despite Hutchins' leg and Lewis' rushing, the Panthers trail as T.J. Yates and Greg Little combine on a pair of TD passes for North Carolina. Yates' 14-yard TD pass to Little w/ 4:00 left in the 3rd quarter gives the Tar Heels a 17-16 lead.
