North Carolina hangs on for the win after Anthony Carter is unable to corral B.J. Dickey's pass for a 2-point conversion w/ 1:36 left. Dickey had connected with Carter for a 30-yard TD pass to pull Michigan within 2 points.

The Wolverines had started fast, going ahead 9-0 on a 53-yard TD pass from John Wangler to Carter. However, Wangler suffers a knee injury after a fast start, and Michigan staggers until the final drive. The Wolverines commit 4 turnovers in the 4th quarter.

North Carolina draws within 9-7 on Doug Paschal's 1-yard TD run late in the 1st half. Matt Kupec puts the Heels ahead with a 12-yard TD pass to Phil Farris in the 3rd quarter.

Lawrence rushes for 118 yards while Carter has 4 catches for 141 yards.
