Game Notes

#1 Tigers beat the #4 Cornhuskers 22-15 to capture their 1st national championship.

Clemson slows Nebraska's powerful running game, and gets a big night from Homer Jordan to cap their unbeaten season. Jordan throws for 134 yards and 1 TD, while scrambling for 46 yards. Donald Igwebuike hits 3 FGs for the Tigers.

Nebraska grabs a 7-3 lead in the 1st quarter on Mike Rozier's 25-yard halftback pass to Anthony Steels. However, Igwebuike adds his 2nd FG, and Clemson takes a 12-7 lead late in the 1st half on Cliff Austin's 2-yard TD run.

The Tigers stretch the lead out to 22-7 in the 2nd half on Jordan's 13-yard TD pass to Perry Tuttle and Igwebuike's 3rd FG. Nebraska closes to within 22-15 on Roger Craig's 26-yard TD run and ensuing run for 2 points, with 9:15 left. But Clemson stalls the Cornhuskers' next drive and eat up all but the final :06 on on the ground.
