Game Notes

#1 Cougars survive to claim the National Championship with a 24-17 win over the Wolverines.

A limping Robbie Bosco puts on an impressive performance with his arm, and maybe his acting ability. With reports of ligament tears, sprains and broken ribs, Bosco's performance shows little evidence that the injuries could possibly be so severe.

But it makes a good story, and Bosco provides the last chapter leading BYU to a pair of TDs in the 4th quarter, overcoming a 17-10 deficit. Bosco's 7-yard TD pass to Glen Kozlowski ties it, then the Cougars put together an 80-yard drive capped by Bosco's 13-yard TD pass to Kelly Smith w/ 1:23 left in the game.

Bosco finishes 30-of-42 for 343 yards.

Michigan had taken the lead after trailing 10-7 at the half. Chris Zurbrugg hits Bob Perryman with a 10-yard TD pass in the 3rd quarter, then Bob Bergeron's 32-yard FG extends the lead to 17-10.
