Syracuse commits 5 turnovers, assisting a strong effort by Maryland's Stan Gelbaugh. Gelbaugh throws for 223 yards and 2 TDs, and runs for another. Alvin Blount adds 132 yards and 1 TD on the ground.

Syracuse leads 10-7 until Gelbaugh hits Chris Knight with a 4-yard TD pass in the 2nd quarter. Maryland extends its lead with a TD off a fluke play, when punt returner Scott Schwedes loses the ball and it ends up in the hands of defensive tackle Scott Tye, who carries it in for an 8-yard return and TD.

Alvin Blount adds a 20-yard TD run before halftime, and Gelbaugh's 6-yard TD pass to Azizuddin Abdur-Raoof stretches the lead to 35-10 in the 3rd quarter.

Don McPherson throws for 204 yards and rushes for 111 yards for the Orangemen, but the Syracuse attack is done in by the 5 turnovers.
