Game Notes

No Hail Mary this time as #1 Hurricanes escape with a 19-14 win over the Eagles.

Glenn Foley's final heave lands in an empty part of the end zone, allowing Miami to survive a mistake-prone effort and hang on to its unbeaten record despite losing Stephen McGuire to a knee injury. The Hurricanes commit a school record 19 penalties, and turn the ball over near mid-field when apparently trying to run out the clock with 1:20 left.

Foley gets Boston College inside the Hurricanes' 30 before a sack forces his final throw into the end zone on the final play. Foley hits 21 of 36 for 241 yards and 2 TDs, attempting to lead the upset.

However, Miami is able to defend a 16-7 lead built on a 2-yard TD pass from Gino Torretta to Coleman Bell and a 2-yard TD run by Martin Patton. Foley's 20-yard TD pass to Clarence Cannon draws the Eagles within 16-14 in the 3rd quarter. Torretta goes 23-of-42 for 251 yards.
