Game Notes

#23 Hurricanes hold off the #16 Orangemen for 38-31 win.

Miami jumps in front early, holds off a late rally by Syracuse in the 2nd half to force a 3-way tie for the Big East Championship. Ryan Clement throws for 218 yards and 3 1st-half TDs to help the Hurricanes take a 21-3 lead.

After the Orangemen's offense comes to life with a TD drive late in the 1st half, Miami answers with the 1st of 2 big return TDs. Tremain Mack returns the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a TD, and then Duane Starks picks Donovan McNabb early in the 2nd half, returning it 35 yards for a TD and a 35-10 lead. McNabb is able to rally Syracuse with 3 TD passes in the 2nd half, but his 3 INTs and failure to convert an onside kick late doom the Orangemen's rally and hopes for an outright conference title.
