Game Notes

Patriots rout the Colts 38-17.

David Patten turns into Superman for New England, running for a TD, throwing for another and catching 2 TDs, becoming the 1st player since Walter Payton in 1979 to throw, run and catch a TD in the same game. In the process, Patten also sets a team record with a 91-yard TD reception from Tom Brady that opens a 14-3 lead for New England.

Things turn quickly for Indianapolis after a successful opening drive results in a blocked FG and 1 play later Patten scoots in for a 29-yard TD on an end around. Patten then hauls in a bomb from Brady and outruns the defense for a TD. He caps his big 1st half, taking a lateral before hitting Troy Brown for a 60-yard TD pass and 21-3 lead. Patten finishes with 4 catches for 117 yards and 2 TDs, with Brady hitting 16-of-20 for 202 yards and 2 TDs.
