Oakland gets defensive in capturing the AFC West title, holding San Diego to 274 total yards and forcing 3 turnovers, including 2 with the Chargers threatening to score. The Raiders pick off Doug Flutie at the 11 in the 3rd quarter, preserving a 3-3 tie, and then William Thomas picks off Flutie in the end zone while the Raiders lead 10-6 midway through the 4th quarter.

Oakland drives for a FG after the INT, and then makes a defensive stand at the Raiders' 24 in the final minute to preserve the win. Rich Gannon throws for 221 yards and hooks up with Jerry Rice on a 40-yard TD pass in the 3rd quarter, for the game's only touchdown.
