Miami jumps out to a 21-0 lead and never looks back. Ricky Williams rushes for 111 yards and 2 TDs in his debut with the Dolphins, and Robert Edwards scores a pair of TDs in his 1st NFL game in 3 years after battling back from a debilitating knee injury.

Williams puts Miami ahead 1st with a 1-yard TD run, capping a 90-yard drive. Then Trent Gamble capitalizes on a Detroit mistake, recovering a fumbled punt in the end zone for a TD. Jay Fiedler throws for 207 yards and 3 TDs, including a 3rd quarter toss to Edwards for a 42-14 lead. Edwards had not played in a regular season game since shredding a knee prior to the Pro Bowl following the 1998 season.
