Chargers finish off the 49ers in the 4th quarter for a 31-9 win.

San Francisco manages to stay with San Diego until Dan Fouts makes the 49ers pay for an offsides on a 4th-down FG miss by hitting Kellen Winslow with a 24-yard TD pass w/ 9:58 to play for a 24-9 lead. The Chargers punch in a 1-yard TD run by Hank Bauer in the final minute to extend the lead.

Fouts throws for 251 yards and 2 TDs with Winslow catching 7 for 72 yards. The winless 49ers go ahead first on a FG by Ray Wershing, but then the Chargers answer with 17 straight in the 2nd quarter as Clarence Williams scores on a 3-yard run and Fouts follows a FG by Roy Gerela with a 24-yard TD pass to Charlie Joiner.
