Despite a unusual game plan for an NFL game, with Denver shuttling QBs Tommy Maddox and Shawn Moore every play, Dallas needs a late drive capped by Emmitt Smith's 3-yard TD run with under 3 minutes to play to win it. The TD is Smith's 16th of the season, tying a franchise record.

The Cowboys seal the victory when Kenneth Gant picks Maddox on a 4th down, the 5th turnover by Maddox in the game. Maddox also tosses 3 TDs, and receiver Arthur Marshall hits Cedric Tillman with an 81-yard TD pass for the go-ahead score early in the 4th quarter.

Troy Aikman goes 25-of-35 for 231 yards and 3 TDs to lead Dallas.
