Pittsburgh shuts down depleted San Diego to clinch the AFC Central title in the snow. The Chargers, with Sean Salisbury starting for injured Stan Humphries, manage just 148 total yards and turn the ball over 4 times, failing to capitalize on chances the Steelers give them to rally.

Erric Pegram and Jerome Bettis combine to rush for 154 yards to carry an inconsistent Pittsburgh attack. The Steelers get a pair of early FGs, and then Mike Tomczak connects with Andre Hastings for an 11-yard TD pass and 13-0 lead in the 2nd quarter.
