Game Notes

Steelers prevail 36-33 as Browns collapse.

Pittsburgh overcomes a 33-21 deficit in the closing minutes as Cleveland falls apart managing the clock and committing costly penalties, opening the door for the Steelers to overtake the Browns on Chris Fuamatu-Maafala's 3-yard TD run with less than a minute to play.

Cleveland had jumped in front 24-7 early in the 2nd half on the 2nd of Kelly Holcomb's 3 TD passes. Holcomb throws for 429 yards, helping the Browns control the game until the 4th quarter when Tommy Maddox begins to rally the Steelers. Maddox throws for 367 and 3 TDs, all coming as Pittsburgh rallies from the 17-point deficit. Maddox's 5-yard TD pass to Hines Ward in the 4th quarter cuts the gap to 33-28.

When Cleveland responds with a series of incompletions, burning less than 30 seconds off the clock and preserving 1 timeout for Pittsburgh, the Steelers are poised for the game winning drive with 2:35 to play. Ward catches 11 passes for 104 yards, offsetting a 140-yard day by the Browns' Kevin Johnson.
