Game Notes

Dolphins slosh past the Jets 14-0 in a mud bowl to reach Super Bowl XVII.

On a muddy track resulting from a week of rain and more overnight and on game-day, Miami escapes the costly mistakes that doom New York. After a scoreless 1st half, the Dolphins benefit from a quick whistle to avoid losing a fumble and then convert the 2nd chance into the only offensive TD of the day when Woody Bennett bulls in for a 7-yard TD in the 3rd quarter.

Richard Todd and David Woodley take turns throwing INTs throughout the game, but Todd suffers more in numbers and damage as A.J. Duhe picks off 3 of Todd's 5 INTs. The 1st sets up Bennett's TD in the 3rd quarter, the final one Duhe returns 35 yards for a score in the 4th quarter.

With offenses stuck in neutral because of the conditions (the 2 teams combine for 335 total yards), the Jets are unable to mount a rally. New York gains just 139 yards on the day. Jets' deep threat Wesley Walker manages just 1 catch for 0 yards.
