Game Notes

Steelers return to the Super Bowl with a 27-13 win over the Oilers, amid controversy.

Pittsburgh turns in another super performance, but not without controversy and calls for instant replay after a TD pass to Mike Renfro is ruled incomplete, and Houston later settles for a FG rather than tying TD.

But with 2 more chances at the end zone, the sequence mirrors the Oilers' frustration which culminates in a 2nd straight championship game loss at Three Rivers Stadium. The Oilers get an immediate spark when Vernon Perry returns an INT 75 yards for the 1st score, but the Steelers recover and take a 17-10 lead when Terry Bradshaw tosses a pair of TDs.

After the critical 'no TD' call, Pittsburgh extends the lead with a 39-yard FG by Matt Bahr and 4-yard TD run by Rocky Bleier. Meanwhile, the Steel Curtain bottles up Earl Campbell holding him to 15 yards on 17 carries.
