Game Notes

Steelers hang on to beat the Cowboys 35-31.

Pittsburgh scores 2 TDs in 11 seconds and then hold on as Dallas makes a furious comeback attempt. Leading 21-17, Franco Harris bursts free for a 22-yard TD run and then Terry Bradshaw hits Lynn Swann for a 18-yard TD pass after Randy White fumbles the kickoff following Harris' TD.

Bradshaw earns MVP honors, throwing for a career-best 318 yards and 4 TDs. Bradshaw bounces back from a fumble returned for a TD and 14-7 lead by Mike Hegman, hitting John Stallworth with a 75-yard TD pass and then finding Rocky Bleier for a 7-yard TD pass right before halftime.

The Cowboys have chances to close, but miss out on a TD when Jackie Smith can't hang on to a sure TD pass, forcing Dallas to settle for a FG and 21-17 deficit in the 3rd quarter. Shortly after, White's fumble becomes the 2nd huge miscue.
