Atlanta withstands a late rally by San Francisco and is able to run out the clock as Jamal Anderson makes a strong return. Anderson carries 24 times for 77 yards in his 1st game back after a season-ending knee injury during the 1999 season.

Each time, the 49ers drew within a TD, the Falcons found an answer, the critical one coming when Ashley Ambrose returns an INT 36 yards for a TD and 36-21 lead in the 4th quarter. Chris Chandler throws for 264 yards and 2 long TDs and Morten Andersen hits all 4 FG attempts.
