Falcons beat the Panthers 15-10 in a strange finish.

Leading 13-10, Atlanta is trying to run out the clock successfully when Doug Evans punches the ball away from Jamal Anderson, and gets control of it just beyond the goal line before sliding out of the side of the end zone, resulting in a safety for the Falcons with 2:12 left. With no timeouts left, Carolina kicks deep rather than trying an onside free kick, allowing Atlanta to kneel 3 times and run out the clock.

It was a fitting finish for a game devoid of much offense, and overloaded with defense and mistakes. The teams combine for 6 turnovers and 3 missed FGs and a botched attempt on a 4th when holder Ken Walter mishandles a snap.
