Burton leads 98 of the last 104 laps, only yielding the lead briefly during a cycle of late 'splash-and-go' pit stops. Burton is relatively unchallenged after Dale Jarrett and Ernie Irvan suffer misfiring engines after their Robert Yates' cars appear to be the class of the field early.

Dale Earnhardt ends up finishing 2nd, trailed by Rusty Wallace and Steve Grissom.
