Ricky Rudd picks up the pieces late to win at Dover.

Rudd claims his 1st win of the year after bad fortune besets the Yates Racing duo of Dale Jarrett and Ernie Irvan after they had dominated the race. Irvan dominated early before slipping back after a small collision on pit road with his teammate. Jarrett, who took the dominant role from Irvan before the incident, threatened to run away from the field before his engine gave way with 37 laps to go.

Irvan retook the lead after Jarrett's retirement and appeared cruising to an easy win before he spun on oil and hit the wall with 29 laps to go. Jarrett and Irvan had combined to lead 406 of the 500 laps.

Rudd took the lead after Irvan's spin and fended off a late challenge from Mark Martin for the win. Jeff Burton finishes 3rd.
