Dale Earnhardt finally visits Victory Lane at the Daytona 500.

Earnhardt manages to dominate a pack of contenders throughout, leading 107 laps, and holding off Bobby Labonte in the final rush to the finish. Labonte and Jeremy Mayfield make a late surge, but Earnhardt is able to use lapped traffic to deny a daring challenge at the end. Ken Schrader and Rusty Wallace round out the top 5 after Labonte, Mayfield and Wallace ran the in the draft with Earnhardt for much of the race.
