Jimmy Vasser wins the fuel battle to capture the win.

With the lead pack attempting to stretch the fuel to the finish, Vasser manages to nurse his car to the finish without needing a late stop, coasting to the win after a perfect pit stop gave him the lead over Paul Tracy on the final round of stops. Vasser's biggest challenge came from Helio Castroneves, who falls back in the late laps before running out of gas at the finish. Castroneves manages to cross the line just ahead of Al Unser, Jr. to claim 2nd.
