Jimmy Vasser wins a $1-million with a wild dash to the finish.

Vasser wins a 1-lap sprint to the finish, holding off teammate Alex Zanardi and then overtaking Greg Moore to grab the win, a $1-million prize and 2nd place in the CART championship behind Zanardi.

Paul Tracy was in line for his 1st win of the year, starting at the front of the field as it approached the Green Flag with 4 laps to go, but Tracy spun out after giving it the gas to pull away from the field. As a result, the race returned to yellow until the final lap. Vasser was able to leapfrog Dario Franchitti for 2nd place in the championship with the top 3 finish after Franchitti retired from the race early.
