Burton bypasses Bobby Labonte with 16 laps to go, and then holds off a late charge by Labonte, who was also racing for a million dollar bonus. Mark Martin finishes 3rd giving Rousch Racing 1st and 3rd.

Rookie Tony Stewart finishes 4th after racing in the top 3 for most of the race, following a late arrival in Charlotte after he drove to a 9th place finish in the Indianapolis 500 earlier in the day.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. finishes 16th in his Winston Cup debut.
