Andretti overcomes and early spin that puts him a lap down to claw back into contention and then manages a late charge despite taking just 2 tires on his final pit stop. Andretti overtakes Jeff Burton with 4 laps to go and pulls away for the win. Burton finishes 2nd after leading 130 laps.

Jeff Gordon ends up in 3rd after battling Burton and Rusty Wallace, who finishes 7th, for the lead for most of the race. The trio combine to lead 470 of the 500 laps.
