Fuel economy prevails for Bobby Labonte.

Labonte is able to claim his 1st win of the season by stretching his fuel to the end while all of the other front runners must stop for a 'splash and go' in the final laps. Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and Mark Martin had dominated most of the race, but the late pit stops deny each a chance at the win.

Labonte started from the pole but Martin quickly claimed the lead through most of the 1st 100 miles. Gordon, Stewart and Labonte then took turns leading extended stretches. Gordon finishes 2nd, followed by Martin and then Stewart.
