Jeff Gordon hangs on for the win at Martinsville.

Gordon holds off late-charging Dale Earnhardt to win by 0.198 seconds in his 1st race without Ray Evernham as his crew chief. Gordon stays out during a late caution and makes the strategy pay off when the other front runners are mired in traffic and unable to mount a challenge other than Earnhardt.

Geoffrey Bodine finishes 3rd. The trio that dominated much of the race, Kenny Wallace, Mike Skinner and Bobby Labonte, end up 4th, 5th and 7th respectively after making a pit stop under the late caution.
