Castroneves takes the from teammate Gil de Ferran after the 1st round of pit stops and pulls away for the win by 4.2 seconds after stretching the lead to 17 seconds before a series of cautions allow de Ferran to close. After taking the pole, de Ferran had led the 1st 28 laps and only faced a mild challenge from Christian Fittipaldi for 3rd.
