Game Notes

Reds rebound to beat the Red Sox 4-3 and capture the Big Red Machine's 1st championship.

A night after Boston forces a final game with late-inning heroics, Cincinnati stages the rally and wins it in the 9th on Joe Morgan's run-scoring single.

Don Gullett struggles with control, and Boston takes a 3-0 lead in the 3rd after Bernie Carbo walks and then scores on Carl Yastrzemski's single and then Denny Doyle and Yastrzemski score on a bases-loaded walks to Rico Petrocelli and Dwight Evans.

Bill Lee is cruising along until a long 5th seems to tire him, and a routine double play not turned comes back to haunt Boston when an ephus pitch by Lee is crushed over the leftfield wall by Tony Perez for a 2-run HR.

The Reds tie it on MVP-winner Pete Rose's RBI single in the 7th.
