Game Notes

National League rallies to a 5-4 win as baseball returns from its mid-summer strike with a showcase.

Mike Schmidt's 2-run HR off Rollie Fingers in the 8th lifts the NL stars past the American League. The NL trailed despite a pair of solo HRs by MVP Gary Carter.

Ken Singleton leads off the 2nd with a solo shot off Tom Seaver. Carter knots it with his 1st HR in the 5th, and Dave Parker puts the NL ahead with a solo HR in the 6th.

The AL answers with a 3-run bottom of the 6th. Fred Lynn's RBI single ties it 2-2, and then Buddy Bell follows with a Sac Fly to score Dwight Evans and Ted Simmons' RBI single gives the AL a 4-2 lead.
