The American League takes a 1-0 lead in the 1st, but Dave Concepcion's 2-run HR in the 2nd puts the NL ahead for good as it coasts to its 12th straight win, and 19th in the previous 20 All-Star Games.

Rupert Jones' triple to lead off the 3rd results in Pete Rose's Sac Fly and a 3-1 lead. The NL tacks on another run on Gary Carter's RBI single in the 6th.
