Red Sox' offense dominates supposed pitcher's duel to give Boston a 2-0 lead in the series with a 9-3 win over the Mets.

The Red Sox get to New York ace Dwight Gooden early, while Roger Clemens struggles despite a big early lead. Boston turns a walk and an error into 3 runs in the 3rd when Wade Boggs follows with a double, and then Marty Barrett and Bill Buckner each single. The Mets answer with 2 runs, but Dave Henderson leads off the 4th with a solo HR, and Dwight Evans tacks on a 2-run HR in the 5th.

Clemens departs in the bottom of the 5th, but Steve Crawford and Bob Stanley shut down the Mets to back the big offensive night.
