Game Notes

Mets power up to beat the Red Sox 6-2, even the series.

Gary Carter homers twice, once completely out of the park over the Green Monster, and Lenny Dykstra adds a 2-run HR to back a shaky Ron Darling. Darling, starting on 3 days rest, blanks Boston for 7 innings on 4 hits, but also struggles with control, walking 6 and benefitting from a costly base-running mistake by Rich Gedman in the bottom of the 6th.

The Mets lead 3-0 after a 3-run 4th, highlighted by Carter's 2-run HR. Boston tries to claw back into the game, but Gedman is thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double, ending the inning, rather than bringing the tying run to the plate.

New York then Dykstra connects for a 2-run HR off Steve Crawford in the 7th as Dwight Evans gets a glove on the ball, but can't control it. Carter then adds a solo shot in the 8th for a 6-0 lead.
