Game Notes

Bruce Hurst carries the Red Sox back into the series in a 4-2 win over the Mets.

Hurst goes the distance, allowing just a pair of late runs in the final innings as Boston bounces back after losing 2 straight at home to allow New York to even the series. Hurst scatters 10 hits, pitching around trouble in the 5th while protecting a 2-0 lead. Hurst strikes out Lenny Dystra with runners on 2nd and 3rd, and then retiring Tim Teufel on a ground ball.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox are able to chip away at Dwight Gooden through the early innings before knocking him out in the 5th. Dave Henderson scores on a Sac Fly after tripling in the 2nd, and an error in the 3rd opens the door for an RBI single by Dwight Evans. Boston puts 2 more on the board in the 5th when Jim Rice leads off with a triple and scores on Don Baylor's single. Baylor later scores on a double by Henderson.
