Game Notes

Mets stage another comeback to beat the Red Sox 8-5 and capture their 2nd World Championship.

Down 3-0, New York wakes up with 3 runs in the 6th and 7th innings, and then answers a late comeback attempt by Boston with a 2-run 8th to secure the win. The Red Sox had gotten to Ron Darling early, but Sid Fernandez enters and shuts down Boston, allowing New York the chance to comeback.

Lee Mazzilli, a spark in the game 6 comeback, starts another with a pinch-hit single in the 6th and then comes around to score on Keith Hernandez's 2-run single. Gary Carter's ground out scores the tying run. MVP Ray Knight puts the Mets ahead, leading off the 7th with a solo HR. New York tacks on 2 more in the inning for a 6-3 lead.

Boston thretens in the 8th when Bill Buckner and Jim Rice lead off with singles followed by Dwight Evans' double that scores Buckner and Rice. However, Jesse Orosco shuts down the rally with no more damage.
