Game Notes

Dodgers win with late dramatics, beating the Mets 5-4 in 12 innings.

Los Angeles uses a tying HR in the 9th, winning HR in the 12 and bullpen by committee to even the series at 2-2. With Jay Howell suspending for cheating in game 3 with pine tar, the Dodgers end up turning to Orel Hershiser for the final out with runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the 12th.

New York appeared on the verge of taking a 3-1 lead in the series, but Mike Scioscia connects with a 2-run HR off Dwight Gooden in the top of the 9th to tie the game 4-4. Kirk Gibson finally breaks the tie with a 2-out HR off Roger McDowell in the 12th.

The Dodgers had gotten to Gooden for 2 runs in the 1st, but Mets rally with a 2-run HR by Darryl Strawberry, followed by a solo shot by Kevin McReynolds in the 4th.
