Game Notes

Dodgers jump on Mets early, cruise to a 6-0 win and Pennant.

Los Angeles scores once in the 1st, and then pounds Ron Darling for 5 runs in the 2nd. Mike Scioscia scores on an error by Gregg Jeffries, and then Steve Sax singles home a pair of runs for a 4-0 lead before Dwight Gooden relieves Darling. Gooden promptly walks Kirk Gibson before Wally Backman commits the 2nd error of the inning, allowing Hershiser to score ahead of a Sac Fly by John Shelby.

Staked to the early cushion, Hershiser rolls, going the distance allowing 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5.
