Los Angeles @ Oakland

Network: NBC
Announcers: Vin Scully, Joe Garagiola
Format: DVD (1 disk)
Quality: 8.5
Notes: No commercials, pre-game or post-game... This is from the A&E 1988 World Series set... Grade is lowered due to really lame effort by A&E and MLB productions in putting out a version that cuts off 1 play while action is continuing and completely missing a 9th-inning base hit that represents the potential tying run.

Game Notes

Dodgers overcome more injuries and a depleted lineup to turn back the A's 4-3.

Down several players, Los Angeles loses catcher Mike Scioscia during the game, leaving the Dodgers with a woefully weak lineup featuring Mickey Hatcher (1 HR in '88) batting 3rd and Mike Davis (sub .200 & 17 RBIs in '88) batting cleanup. However, Tim Belcher delivers big for the Dodgers, going 6 2/3 innings, scattering 7 hits and 3 runs while keeping Oakland's attack from delivering clutch hits with runners in scoring position.

Los Angeles strikes for 2 runs in the 1st, taking advantage of more Oakland mistakes and never trails. After a walk and a single, gives the Dodgers runners at 1st and 3rd, a passed ball allows Steve Sax to score. Davis reaches on an error by Glen Hubbard, and John Shelby's groundout plates Hatcher. The Dodgers go up 3-1 on an another unearned run against Dave Stewart when Walt Weiss nonchalantly plays a soft liner and misses it, allowing Franklin Stubbs to score.
