Hershiser battles through despite not being as sharp as his stretch run, going the distance allowing 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 9. Los Angeles backs Hershiser from the starting, taking a 2-0 lead on a 2-run HR by Mickey Hatcher in the 1st.

Oakland gets on the board with Stan Javier's Sac Fly in the 3rd, but the Dodgers answer when Mike Davis drives a 3-0 pitch from Storm Davis deep into the rightfield stands for a 2-run shot and 4-1 lead. Los Angeles stretches the lead to 5-1 before Hershiser gets into and out of trouble in the 8th, allowing just 1 run in the process.
