Pirates jump on the Braves for a 5-1 win in the opener.

Andy Van Slyke and Bobby Bonilla lead the Pittsburgh attack with a pair of hits each, while combining for 3 runs and 3 RBI. Van Slyke jump starts the Pirates with a solo HR off Tom Glavine in the 1st. He later doubles home Jay Bell in the 3rd before scoring on Bonilla's single for a 3-0 lead.

Doug Drabek is strong before departing with a hamstring injury from running the bases. Drabek goes 6 innings, allowing 3 hits while striking out 5. Bob Walk picks up the final 3 innings to preseve the 4-0 lead he inherits.
