Giants jump on the Cardinals early in route to a 9-6 win in the series opener.

After Kenny Lofton scores on an infield single by Benito Santiago in the 1st, San Francisco breaks loose with 4 runs in the 2nd. Lofton homers in the 3rd, building a 6-1 lead for the Giants.

Lofton watches the homer, creating some fireworks later when Mike Crudale buzzes him with an inside pitch, causing both benches to clear. The Giants open a 7-1 lead on solo HR by David Bell, but the Cardinals gradually cut into the lead.

Albert Pujols connects for his 1st post-season HR, and Miguel Cairo adds a 2-run HR for his 8th consecutive hit.
